PROCEDURES & SERVICES

We offer a range of services which include the following:

Animania Veterinary Hospital is open 24 hours especially for pet emergencies within the geographical reach of the northern suburbs of the Johannesburg metropolis. Common pet emergencies include but are not limited to poisoning, choking, vomiting, bloat, seizures, diarrhoea, dehydration, frost bite and heat stroke. The best way to deal with pet emergencies is to prepare for them, just in case. The next time you bring your pet in for a check-up, ask any of our veterinarians what you should do in case of emergency. You can also contact our veterinarians on the after-hours emergency number given on our website.

Your pet may need to stay in hospital to receive various services such as diagnostic tests, treatments or post-operative care. Our caring and loving team will do all it can to ensure a comfortable hospital stay for your pet. There are set times for visiting hospitalised pets and we kindly request you to please respect these times to enable our staff to provide the necessary care and allow for rest and recuperation of your pet.

At Animania Veterinary Hospital we are passionate about preventive health and wellness care. We recommend regular vaccinations as an important component of keeping your pet healthy and protecting them against often fatal infectious diseases.  During the vaccination, our veterinarians give your pet a full health check and examination helping to pick up any disease conditions early on and commence treatment immediately. Our veterinarians will recommend a comprehensive vaccination programme for your pets from the age of 6 weeks and in to their adult life.

We conduct dental procedures during the week and booking in advance is recommended. Our veterinarians will conduct a full consultation and admit your pet for the dental procedure. For older pets, it is necessary to run blood tests to rule out organ disfunction and for choice of anaesthetic protocol before the dental procedure is conducted. Speak to our veterinarians if you have questions regarding your pet’s dental health.

Animania Veterinary Hospital focuses on holistic veterinary surgery. We conduct routine pet sterilisations (spays and neuters), traumatic soft tissue surgery, and simple orthopaedic surgeries. Our dedicated team of veterinarians specializes in treating dogs and cats that require surgery to treat conditions involving the gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal and urogenital systems. Our doctors will give you full details and you will have an opportunity to ask questions before your pet undergoes surgery.

Before treating your pet, it is sometimes necessary to conduct diagnostic tests and ensure a good prognosis and monitor effectiveness of treatment. To this end, Animania Veterinary hospital has a state of the art in-house diagnostic laboratory equipped with the Idexx haematology and chemistry analysers to test your pet’s blood and give results within 10 minutes of sample collection. This helps to ensure quick results, diagnosis to be made on time and effective treatment to be commenced timeously. Speak to our veterinarians for routine testing of geriatric pets to enable early detection of diseases.

At Animania Veterinary Hospital we offer modern digital imaging facilities. Our radiology unit provides routine thoracic, abdominal and skeletal radiographs, and on request, special contrast procedures (e.g., excretory urograms, barium contrast studies) are offered. Most orthopedic radiographs and most contrast studies will need to be obtained with the patient absolutely still, which will require sedation or anaesthesia. We use our state of the art ultrasound equipment to scan and produce images of your animal’s internal organs and tissue including tendons, muscles and joints. The ultrasound imaging service provides abdominal, non-cardiac thoracic and musculoskeletal ultrasound. Talk to our veterinarians for further information regarding diagnostic imaging for your pet.
